Health Insurance Benefits

A.   Unless otherwise specified in this agreement, upon enrollment, all TA/RAs covered by this agreement shall become eligible for a monthly subsidy to be used toward pay of the premium for the student Health Care plan of their choice, regardless of premium increase. These plans are currently Blue Cross/Blue Shield
CompSelect and Keystone Point of Service for PA and NJ.

B.   Temple University shall maintain its right to change any of the above-mentioned carriers at its sole discretion. Prior to making any change, Temple University will meet and discuss with TUGSA. In the event that Temple determines to change its above-mentioned carriers during the course of a TA/RA's appointment, a substantially equivalent level of benefits will be maintained during the remainder
of that appointment.

C.   Bargaining Unit members are entitled to a monthly subsidy equal to monthly premium for single coverage in the Keystone Point of Service plan, regardless of premium increase, for each month during which work is performed on a full time basis. This subsidy may be used only toward purchase of Temple University health care plans available to this bargaining unit. No TA/RA shall be compensated for subsidy amounts not used toward health care premiums.

D.   If a TA/RA has a full appointment for either (a) the Fall and Spring semester of an academic year or (b) the Fall, Spring and either Summer session of an academic year, he/she shall receive the subsidy amount for 12 months.

E.   The monthly healthcare subsidy provided for the above shall be prorated for fractional appointments, i.e., 25%, 50% or 75%.

F.   When the coverage elected terminates, TA/RAs will be eligible to pay the premium for continued coverage as provided under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, 1985, as amended (COBRA).
