How to Get Involved

How can you get involved?
There are many different ways to get involved with TUGSA. Remember: many hands make light work!

  • Read our emails and stay informed.
  • Become a Full or Associate Member.
  • Come to meetings and events (all listed on our calendar [<-hyperlink]).
    • General Meetings are twice a semester and will include interactive discussions on the growth of our union and how best to improve working conditions for graduate student employees.
    • Because this is a contract negotiation year, we will have four Town Hall events specifically for discussing the contract negotiation process.
    • We will also have several social events (e.g., Quizzo, kickball, happy hours) where you can meet other graduate students and have some fun between all of the hard work that you do.
  • Volunteer for or propose campaigns and events.
    • We will need volunteers to do things like gather signatures on petitions, spend an hour at a table for outreach events, etc. These are often one-time, short commitments, so they are really easy ways to help out in a big way. Email membership@tugsa.org if you are open to helping out from time to time.
    • If you have an idea for these campaigns or events, please get in touch!
  • Join a committee or start a committee.
    • Current committees include:
      • Organizing Committee – Works to build members’ knowledge of and involvement in the Union. Contact Ingrid Johnson (ingrid.johnson@tugsa.org) if you’d like to join.
      • Negotiations Research Committee – Works to generate data and information as needed in the contract negotiations process. Contact Ethan Ake-Little (ethan.ake@tugsa.org) if you’d like to join.
      • International Students Caucus – Works to address issues facing International graduate student employees. Contact Shrobona Karkun (shrobona.karkun@tugsa.org) if you’d like to join.
    • If you think that something is missing and you would like to start a new committee, contact Matt Ford at matt.ford@tugsa.org.
  • Serve on the Executive Board.
    • This is a big commitment, but is also very rewarding! The TUGSA Executive Board includes six volunteers that serve year-long terms. Elections are in the Spring, but we are always looking to cultivate future leaders. You must be a member for at least 3 months to run for election.
